January 2008-Safety Warning (Immersion thermostats)
10 month old Rianah Hardie of Taunton, Somerset was scalded alive when the thermostat in the water heater of her parents council flat did not shut-off & turned to steam, melting the overflow tank in the loft. This subsequently melted & scalding hot water poured through the ceiling onto Rianah leaving her with 95% burns.She later died in Hospital.
It is estimated that 14% of the current UK housing stock may be fitted with this type of thermostat & the NICEIC recommend replacement with a new "over-heat" cut out unit. Contact us today if you are concerned if your thermostat may be older than 8 years.
March 2009-Oakley Dental Practice
Power Projects have recently completed the refurbishment of Oakley Dental Practice for Mr Rod Kent. Works included the installation of electrical services to support specialist surgery equipment, Cat 5e Data Installation, Fire Alarm & Emergency Lighting Installation. July 2009-Landlord Imprisonment following Fire at bedsits London N8
Two landlords of bedsit accommodation in north London have been sentenced to six months' imprisonment and ordered to pay £5000 costs each for breaching fire safety legislation. The prosecution followed a fire on 31 March 2007 at a house converted into bedsits on Hampden Road, London N8.
Michael de Havilland and Sally Fox of Muswell Hill were sentenced at Wood Green Crown Court on Friday 12 June, after previously pleading guilty to several breaches of the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005. These included inadequate fire detection systems, a lack of proper fire doors for bedrooms or for the communal kitchen, no emergency lighting in the building's stairway, a lack of firefighting equipment such as a fire extinguisher or fire blankets, and no fire risk assessment available for inspection.
